SS-31, also known as elamipretide, is a synthetic tetrapeptide from the Szeto-Schiller series. It is cell-permeable and concentrates in mitochondria, where it binds cardiolipin, a lipid of the inner mitochondrial membrane. It has been studied in cell and animal models of mitochondrial function.
